Conjunctive adverb:

যে adverb দুইটি বাকাংশের মধ্যে সংযোগ স্থাপন করে, কিন্তু তার পূর্ববর্তী শব্দের সাথে কোন সম্পর্ক বা relation সৃষ্টি করে না, তাকেত conjunctive adverb বলে। Where, when, why, how, while প্রভৃতি শব্দগুলি conjunctive adverb.

Example:

I know where he lives. [এই বাক্যে ‘know’ এবং ’where’-এর মধ্যে কোন সম্পর্ক নাই বা ’where’ শব্দটি ‘know’-এর সাথে কোন সম্পর্ক সৃষ্টি করে নাই]।
You may go where you like. [এই বাক্যে ‘go’ এবং ’where’-এর মধ্যে কোন সম্পর্ক নাই বা ’where’ শব্দটি ‘go’-এর সাথে কোন সম্পর্ক সৃষ্টি করে নাই]।

১. মূল বৈশিষ্ট্যসমূহ:

এটি দুটি আলাদা চিন্তা বা বাক্যের মধ্যে যৌক্তিক সংযোগ তৈরি করে।
এটি সময়, কারণ, ফলাফল বা বিপরীত অবস্থা প্রকাশ করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

৩. বিরামচিহ্নের নিয়ম (খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ):

যখন একটি Conjunctive Adverb দুটি স্বাধীন বাক্যকে যুক্ত করে, তখন এর আগে একটি Semicolon (;) এবং পরে একটি Comma (,) বসে।

Structure: [Independent Clause] ; [Conjunctive Adverb] , [Independent Clause]

উদাহরণ:

Correct: The weather was bad; however, we decided to go out.
Incorrect: The weather was bad however we decided to go out.

৪. বাক্যে ব্যবহারের উদাহরণ:

Therefore (ফলাফল): He studied hard; therefore, he got an A.
Moreover (অধিকন্তু): Reading books increases knowledge; moreover, it improves focus.
However (বিপরীত): I wanted to buy the shirt; however, it was too expensive.
Otherwise (নাহলে): You must study; otherwise, you will fail.

৫. বাক্যতত্ত্ব (Placement):

Conjunctive Adverb বাক্যের শুরুতে, মাঝখানে বা শেষে বসতে পারে:

শুরুতে: Furthermore, the project was completed on time.
মাঝখানে: The project was, furthermore, completed on time.
শেষে: The project was completed on time, furthermore.

৬. Coordinating Conjunction বনাম Conjunctive Adverb:

বৈশিষ্ট্য	Coordinating Conjunction (But, And)	Conjunctive Adverb (However, Moreover)
বিরামচিহ্ন	সাধারণত আগে কমা (,) বসে।	সেমিকোলন (;) ও কমা (,) বসে।
ধরন	এটি কেবল যুক্ত করে।	এটি যুক্ত করার পাশাপাশি কাজের ধরণ বোঝায়।
